Larry,
Just wanted to say what a nice job you
did handling the certification at the N.S.S.G. in New Jersey. Not only was I thrilled with
certifying at the Master level, but I felt confident that everything was
handled correctly with the certification, including having everyone in
the same room, all scissors being damaged the same way, and the overall
judging. An excellent process.
You are well respected in the industry
and I hope you continue to be involved with the N.S.S.G. in the future.
Hope to see you at the N.S.S.G. in Las
Vegas. Keep up the good work.

Sharpening Hi Linda, Larry, and Dennis
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
It was very thoughtful of you to send
out the Celebrate Your Success card. It was a great class Larry put on.
I feel that it helped me to get the Master Sharpener status, very much.
Speaking for some of the UBORES and NEBORES that also took the class feel the
same way I do. We are all pleased with our recent visit with your family,
you are good people. I know there is quite a few of us planning on
purchasing Larry's new machine. Can you please put me on the list also if
I am not already on. The two scissors that Larry serrated for me at the
show came out wonderful. (Thank him for me again.) My client wishes
he gave me two more of his scissors to do. The first thing he said to me
when I went in for a follow-up was, "Are you going to be buying the serration
wheel?" Looking forward to seeing you all in Vegas. Feel free to put
my comment in your guestbook.
Best Regards to you and your family and
I wish you all good health and happiness.

DEAR LARRY & LINDA,
I would like to Thank You for sharing
in our wonderful experience at the National Shear Sharpeners Guild
Convention & Trade show held here in Las Vegas Nevada, November of 2004.
It was truly an experience only God
could have orchestrated.
My name is Charlie Compton and I
recently found myself exploring the idea of changing careers (which
became necessary) and since my wife and I owned a Dog Grooming shop
already, sharpening just seemed to make sense, and there was a need. So I
started to inquire about the equipment I needed to sharpen clipper
blades and scissors for my wife, coworkers & others. I really seemed to
take to it (and I had A pretty tough critic, my wife). The next steps
just seemed to fall into place, buying the equipment and learning to do
beauty shears. I looked into all the machines and schools that were
available. I spent a lot of time on researching the pros and cons on all
aspects and I seemed to keep coming back to the Advanced Hamaguri
Machine by Larry Brooks.
Larry and Linda's web pages were a
world of information for me. I really liked and agreed with what I
read. (They were how I found out about the N.S.S.G convention & what luck
it was going to be held here in Las Vegas!). I had called and talked to
several members and sellers that were going to be here and though I
could get a closer look at and possibly purchase the machine I seemed to
keep coming back to the Advanced Hamaguri Machine. I called Sharp Edges
to find out if they would be attending, that was when I talked to Linda,
I really appreciated her patience and kindness with me on the phone.
Finally the weekend arrived, I was really looking forward to meeting
Larry & Linda Brooks.
My wife and I showed up not knowing
what to expect, we came to buy a machine then hope I took as well to this
as I had with the other. I was hoping to learn something more on
convexing shears because at this point I only had what I had been able
to read about convexing. When we arrived I signed up for the works. the
workshops, trade show & certification competition. Then we began mingling
with other sharpeners who were attending and started thinking that maybe
I shouldn't have entered the competition (how could I do this? I didn't
know about the convex).
I asked if the Brooks had arrived yet?
then someone pointed Larry & Linda out to me. I was nervous about meeting
the, but excited. I introduced myself, they invited me to sit with them,
the next thing I know I'm confessing to them my lack of hands on
knowledge and how I had entered the competition for certification and
was now wondering if I should ask for my money back etc...
I had already decided I was going to
buy Larry's Advanced Hamaguri Machine before we got there and that is
what I had originally sat down to do was to let Larry know I wanted to
purchase the machine he had with him.
I must confess all the events that
came next were straight out of a Fairy Tale.
Larry, being the kind of man that he
is, must have seen the desperate need in me for knowledge and through
the kindness of a true teachers heart, he shared his knowledge with me,
a man he just met.
It was already getting late in Friday
night when Larry took me under his wing and gave me my first pair of
convex shears and a 3 1/2 hour crash course on convexing shears, instead
of enjoying the sights of Las Vegas Larry took his time to give me a
chance in the competition. In the back of your mind you think "it would
be great to get certified" but on the outside you accept that the
experience alone would be exciting and the critique helpful to improve
my skills. With Larry's instruction that night I gained enough
confidence not to back out of the competition.
SATURDAY DAY 2: I went to the workshops
and took notes like crazy, it was a very intense day. then it was time
for the competition, I took my bag of shears and my notes (Thank You Larry) and followed Larry's instructions and did my best, when I was
satisfied that my scissors cut and time was running out I turned in my
bag and went home.
DAY THREE: Trade Show & competition
results. I had no idea how I had done, this was my first time. Bambi my
wife and I browsed the tables and waited for results, finally the time
had arrived, first they called the numbers of bags who did not get there
certification and mine was not there (could it be I got Certified?) they
started calling the rest of the numbers but not mine, finally my number
was called and I realized I was in the top three, I asked the judge if I
had Came in third & he said no you came in second.
My only reply was Larry Brooks & the
Advanced Hamaguri Machine. A few hours with Larry & his Machine and I
placed Second in the National Shear Sharpeners Guild certification
competition. Which I am now a Proud member of.
Thank You Larry & Linda I couldn't
have done it without you.
Sincerely Charlie & Bambi Compton Hi, my name is Karen Gibson
I'm 39 years old and thanks to Larry Brooks,
owner of Sharp Edges, I'm also self employed.
I used to work for a groom shop giving dogs
a bath & drying them. After 5 1/2 years I decided it was a dead
end job for me & so physical, it wasn't a job I could retire from so I
left & went to Louisville Physical Therapy. I took a big pay cut &
the hours were not accommodating my family needs.
Sharpening shears was a good idea, so I
started asking around about training. I discovered there was going
to be a Sharp Fest in Jeffersonville, Indiana 20 minutes from me &
decided to go to meet other sharpeners & find out about equipment &
training, well - I did!
I was actually looking at a machine that
weekend that I was considering but after sitting through a couple
seminars, I changed my mind & I made my way over to Larry's equipment &
talked to Linda, Larry's wife & knew at that very moment - This was the
company for me to train with. I'm so grateful for them, and the
training that I received. I had one on one training for 2 very
intense days. I knew nothing about shears when I went.
Larry was very patient & informative.
I purchased his Hamaguri Advanced System & the TAS. The Hamaguri
is an awesome machine & I can't imagine being on the road Sharpening
without training with Larry & having the equipment that I purchased from
him. I took my first training Dec. 2003 & went back in July 2004
to learn Clipper Blade Sharpening with my husband, so he could help me
sharpen. I hope I get the opportunity to continue to train with
Larry because he's the best & I want to be the best in my area. So
in this closing I want to say Thank You to Larry & Linda for their
continuing support & for the confidence they gave to me to make my
business a success. The hours & money are wonderful.
Thanks
Karen Gibson Sharp Edges:
Just a note to say how
much I learned in two days of time with Larry. Not only superb hands on
sharpening of convex, German bevel and clipper blades. But what others
forget is "HOW TO SERVICE and ADJUST" all the different equipment used
in the sharpening business. When its out of adjustment trouble begins.

West Point, NE Dear Larry and Linda,
Selecting Sharp Edges as a primary source for
sharpening training and equipment was an absolutely perfect choice for
me. The success of my business has been directly related to the
high level technical knowledge and support that I've received from your
organization. There are very few sharpening/repair challenges that
I've encountered in the field that you had not already addressed during
my training sessions with you; however, when a challenge does arise, I
know that I can depend on Sharp Edges to assist me in resolving the
issue. Also, I couldn't be more pleased with my Japanese Hamaguri
Sharpening system. With it, I'm able to achieve edges that only a
select few can produce. That competence translates into a
confidence that allows me to enter any shop and know that I can do the
job correctly.
Thanks a million,

Houston, Texas To whom it may
concern;
My name is Jim
Christensen, I live in Orem, Utah and have wanted to get into the
sharpening business for quite some time. In January of 2002 I lost
my full time job in a steel plant in Utah because of foreign steel
imports being illegally dumped into the U.S.A. from other countries.
Because of this I was eligible for retraining from the government
through T.A.A.. I Knew of several people and companies that taught
sharpening, I knew Larry Brooks was a master sharpener still practicing
sharpening and felt Larry was one of the best sharpeners in our country
if not the best so I called Larry Brooks and asked Larry if he would
train me in the field of sharpening. Larry agreed to train me.
At this point I applied for my retraining to go into the sharpening
field. I tried to convince my counselors that sharpening was a
legitimate trade. My counselors for T.A.A. felt I should go into
more conventional fields at local colleges. I keep presenting my
business plan to them and explaining to them that this was the field I
wanted to go into and felt I could make a living sharpening.
Finally, after four or five months they finally gave in and OK'd my
training with Larry Brooks of Sharp Edges in the field of sharpening.
I would strongly
recommend Larry Brooks of Sharp Edges to anyone interested in getting
into the sharpening business. I learned more than I could ever explain
in this letter. Larry is a wonderful teacher and teaches one on one
with his students, his wife Linda helped me greatly with how the
business should be run.
Since completing my
training with Larry Brooks I have gone on to open my own successful
sharpening business in Utah (Cutting Edge Sharpening). I could not have
made it in the sharpening business if I would not have trained with
Larry Brooks.

Larry and Linda,
Hope this finds you
folks well. My hat is off to the Ultra Diamond Spray and Ultra Pads.
What a combination! A shine like I've never been able to achieve before
and a sharp edge second to none. Wow! Keep up the great work! As I call
the Professor- Larry "What if" Brooks. Always thinking and I am
appreciative of all your efforts. Thank you for your time and attention.

Dear Linda and Larry,
Thank you both for
your time and patience training me on scissor and clipper sharpening.
Your program went above and beyond my expectations of the skills I need
and how to begin setting up a business. I know I made the right choice
in selecting Sharp Edges for my training. I feel fortunate that I am now
a part of the Sharp Edges family.
I enjoyed my time with each of you and our
discussions over meals and brake time. It was a pleasure to get to know
you both. Your professionalism and knowledge are top notch. My goal now
is to improve my skills and knowledge of the sharpening industry. Maybe
someday, with little luck and building upon your training, I'll go to
Las Vegas and have the honor of becoming a Master Sharpener.
Thank you for giving me the start to what I believe
will be a wonderful career and business, which I can be proud of.
Forever thankful,
